Spok Messenger Ports: PBX

The PBX Port requires connection using a modem via a serial port.

  1. Choose Interfaces > Ports. The Ports dialog displays.
  2. Click the New button to create a new port on the server. NOTE: When creating a port that has similar properties to an existing one, select the port of similar type before selecting New. Details specific to that port only are required.
  3. Enter the fields as described in the table below:

    Name

    In the Name field, enter a name to describe the port.

    Protocol

    From the Protocol list box, select the PBX option.

    Type

    From the Type list box, several options are available. These options are shown below.

 

Conexant Modem

Enter the fields as described in the table below:
 

Name

In the Name field, enter a name to describe the port.

Protocol

From the Protocol list box, select the PBX option.

Type

From the Type list box, select the Conexant Modem option.

Serial Port

From the Serial Port list box, select a port that is defined as being AVAILABLE. A port that is already assigned within Spok Messenger is labeled IN USE. A port in use by another application on the server is labeled UNAVAILABLE.

Flow Control

From the Flow Control list box, select the RTS/CTS option.

Initialization String

In the Initialization String field, enter the initialization string for the modem. For generic modems, this field may be left blank. If the modem is not generic, an initialization string may be required. Consult the modem manual for details.

Dial String

In the Dial String field, enter the special dial string needed to request the modem to dial a number. For generic modems, this field may be left blank. If the modem is not generic, a special dial string may be needed to request the modem to dial a number. Consult the modem manual for details.

Answer After Modem Rings

In the Answer After Modem Rings field, enter the number of modem rings during which the server should wait before answering an incoming call. A number greater than zero is required. If 0 is entered the modem does not auto answer. If left blank or an invalid string is entered an error dialog displays.

 

Dialogic

The server may be configured to communicate directly through a serial port.

Enter the fields as described in the table below:

Name

In the Name field, enter a name to describe the port.

Protocol

From the Protocol list box, select the PBX option.

Type

From the Type list box, choose the Dialogic option.

Device

 From the Device drop down menu, chose the desired devices for the port.

 

TAPI Automated Voice

Enter the fields as described in the table below:

Name

In the Name field, enter a name to describe the port.

Protocol

From the Protocol list box, select the PBX option.

Type

From the Type list box, choose the TAPI Automated Voice option.

TAPI Device

From the TAPI Device list box, select the TAPI device being used.

Answer After Modem Rings

In the Answer After Modem Rings field, enter the number of modem rings during which the server should wait before answering an incoming call. A number greater than zero is required. If 0 is entered, the modem does not auto answer. If left blank or an invalid string is entered, an error dialog displays.

 

V.92 Voice Modem

The server may be configured to communicate through a serial port to a modem for long haul telecommunications or PBX interaction. When this is required, special signaling must be performed to dial and answer the modem and so on. This selection indicates that Spok Messenger should enable this special signaling.

Enter the fields as described in the table below:

Name

In the Name field, enter a name to describe the port.

Protocol

From the Protocol list box, select the PBX option.

Type

From the Type list box, select the MULTI-TECH or NETCOMM V.92 MODEM option depending on which brand you have.

Serial Port

From the Serial Port list box, select a port that is defined as being AVAILABLE. A port that is already assigned within Spok Messenger is labeled IN USE. A port in use by another application on the server is labeled UNAVAILABLE.

Flow Control

From the Flow Control list box select the RTS/CTS option.

  1. Click Save to commit the new settings to the server. The new port configuration is saved.
  2. In order to reduce network traffic, the status of each of the serial ports is not automatically updated. Click Refresh to update the status of each port.
  3. When the PBX port is configured, set up the PBX Gateway. Refer to PBX Gateways for more information.
