Spok Messenger Ports: POCSAG

Paging transmitters are connected to Spok Messenger via a serial port. A Pocsag Encoder is required to be in line between the serial port and transmitter.

  1. Choose Interfaces > Ports. The Ports dialog displays.
  2. Click the New button to create a new port on the server. NOTE: When creating a port that has similar properties to an existing one, select the port of similar type before selecting New. Details specific to that port only are required.
  3. Enter the fields as described in the table below:

    Name

In the Name field, enter a name to describe the Pocsag transmitter.

    Protocol

From the Protocol list box, select the Pocsag option. The fields are automatically populated with the entries shown in the graphic.

    Type

From the Type list box, choose the Direct RS-232 option. This should be the only option available.

    Serial Port

From the Serial Port list box, select a port that is defined as being AVAILABLE. A port that is already assigned within Spok Messenger is labeled IN USE. A port in use by another application on the server is labeled UNAVAILABLE.

    Flow Control

From the Flow Control list box, select the RTS/CTS option.

  4. Click Save to commit the new settings to the server. The new port configuration is saved.

  5. In order to reduce network traffic, the status of each of the serial ports is not automatically updated. Click Refresh to update the status of each port.

  6. Configure the POCSAG gateway. Refer to POCSAG Gateway for more information.
