Spok Messenger Gateways: SMPP

This gateway allows sending of short messages via a SMPP service provider. When the account is setup with your provider, they supply you with the connection information to enable you to send messages.

Name

Specify a name for the gateway.

Gateway enabled

To be checked for the gateway to function, sometimes it is useful to disable the gateway for troubleshooting purposes.

Debug Logging enabled

Debug level transmission logging for SMPP. Logging is placed in the installation location \Logs\SMPP\smpp_sent_msg_log.

Server Address

The SMPP gateway server address.

System Mode

Transceiver: Send/Receive

Transmitter: Send only

Receiver: Receive only

Server Port

Sets the TCP port for SMPP connection. This field is optional and the default value is 2775.

Protocol Version

Version of SMPP being implemented.

Login name

The username used to log into the server.

Server Timeout (ms)

The maximum amount of time before a connect, send, or query times out. The default value is 3,000 milliseconds.

Password

The password used to log into the server. The password is linked to the entry in the Login Name field.

System Type

The available options display below:

Max Throughput

The maximum data throughput. Entering “0” implies that the limit is unlimited. 

Send Via

Choose the option through which you would like to send information. Available options include:

Email Gateway

PBX Gateway

Pocsag Gateway

SMS Gateway

Tap to IP5

Delivery Receipt

Choose this option if you would like the SMPP server to deliver you a receipt. This usually costs additional SMPP charges. Please note that this function only works in Transceiver and Receiver mode.  

Source Address

The SMS number associated with your SMPP provider account. 

Service Type

Some providers require that you set the type of SMS application for each message. By default, this property is an empty string.

Max msg length

Determines the maximum number of characters that can be sent through this gateway. Messages that exceed the limit are either split or truncated.

Split long messages

Causes messages that are longer than the limit to be sent as separate, sequential messages.

Msg Encoding

This is the encoding format that the destination SMPP gateway expects message data to be presented in.

Message Timeout (min)

The retry period in minutes that the SMPP provider retries to deliver the message. The default value for this field is “0.” When “0” is entered, the default SMPP provider’s validity period is used.

Source TON

Indicates the type of SMS numbers to use during an SMPP session.

Destination TON

Indicates the type of SMS numbers to use during an SMPP session.

Source NPI

Indicates which numbering plan to use during an SMPP session.

Destination NPI

Indicates which numbering plan to use during an SMPP session.

 

Adding SMPP Gateways

A new SMPP gateway can be created.

  1. Choose Interfaces > SMPP. The SMPP Gateways dialog displays.
  2. Click the New button.
  3. Enter information as desired.
  4. Click the Save button. The gateway is created.

Editing SMPP Gateways

An existing SMPP gateway can be edited.

  1. Choose Interfaces > SMPP. The SMPP Gateways dialog displays.
  2. Select the gateway to be edited from the list.
  3. Make desired changes.
  4. Click the Save button. The changes to the gateway are saved.

Deleting SMPP Gateways

An existing SMPP gateway can be deleted.

  1. Choose Interfaces > SMPP. The SMPP Gateways dialog displays.
  2. Select the gateway to be deleted from the list.
  3. Click Delete on the screen or press the delete key on the keyboard. A confirmation dialog displays.
  4. Click Yes to delete the gateway.

NOTE: If the gateway is currently in use by contacts, you are presented with a warning message. In order to remove the gateway, you must first modify the contacts to no longer use this gateway.
