Spok Messenger Events

The Events portion of Spok Messenger manages how events are processed in the Spok Messenger system. The interface allows for a central management of event processing, multiple keywords for event match with all gateways, and easily predefined and unified methods for integration.

In Spok Messenger, events are managed in the Events dialog and the Event Groups dialog. The Events dialog allows you to create events. Further, the Events dialog allows you to create event default tags, to select the gateways that the chosen event uses, and it also allows you to create actions within the event. The Events dialog can be accessed by choosing the Edit > Event Actions menu option. When configuring an event in the Events dialog, you are taken to several different dialogs.

Within events, message actions can be added. Message actions are actions that occur when an event is activated. For example, message actions can send messages to message recipients. So, if you add a message action to send messages to chosen recipients when an event is activated, messages are sent when the event is active.

In some cases, events can automatically clear themselves from the Spok Messenger system. Within an event, after an active event action has completed messaging (the messages generated by an event action have reached a completed state), the event is cleared if one of the following events occurs:

  • A system-generated input triggers a clear for the event
  • A self-cancel timeout is triggered for the event
  • A user clears the event
  • A user clears the event from a device
  • A user accepts the event from a device

Please note that events that are processed through TAP In, Generic IN, and PMSG have the ability to generate multiple alarm events.
