What versions of Samba are available to use with the Smart Suite 5.X software?

According to Red Hat, the only version of Samba software available on Red Hat 5 is SMBv1. Any later version will not work correctly and will result in a loss of software stability.

The following is a small snippet from the redhat.com site:

  • The highest SMB protocol version supported by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 clients is version 1.
  • SMB version 2 and 3 support has been included in RHEL7 and can be used by passing vers=2.0, 2.1, or 3.0 as an option to the mount command.

 

This is a limitation of the filesystem driver which mounts SMB shares in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6. It only supports SMB protocol version 1.
