Using Global Search on a Browser

This article provides information about how Global Search determines results, as well as how to search, use quick actions, and view profile cards.

Overview

Global Search is an application-wide search bar that allows you to search the directory for people, departments, groups, care team roles, on-call groups, and on-call roles. It also has quick actions that allow you to send a message or call a search result, and it allows you to see a detailed profile card for any search result.

Understanding Global Search Results

Global Search uses a score that determines the ranking of results by location, department, role, and specialties based on the matching associations to the user initiating the search. When determining a score for location, Global Search gives a higher score to users that are closer to you, and it accounts for location and region. For example, users in the same facility rank higher than users in the same region. If users have the same department, role, or specialties, the score increases further and those users appear higher in the results.

Global Search can also display results with partial matches, including searches that have missing letters, added letters, and transposed letters.

Using Global Search

  1. Click on the search box at the top of the page.
  2. Enter a person, department, group, care team role, on-call group, or on-call role. A list of results is displayed.

Tabs and Advanced Search

Global Search enables a user to filter search options via tabs and Advanced Search. By default, Global Search displays all results relevant to the search. Below is a table that details which Advanced Search filters are available for each tab.

Quick Actions and Profile Cards

Sending a Message

  1. Click on the search box at the top of the page.
  2. Enter a person, department, group, role, or on-call. A list of results is displayed.
  3. Click the text bubble on the right side of the intended result. A new conversation is started.

Making a Call

  1. Click on the search box at the top of the page.
  2. Enter a person, department, group, role, or on-call. A list of results is displayed.
  3. Click the phone icon on the right side of the intended result. Your device calls the intended result with the native dialer.

The phone icon is not visible if the result does not have an associated phone number.

Viewing Profile Cards

  1. Click on the search box at the top of the page.
  2. Enter a person, department, group, role, or on-call. A list of results is displayed.
  3. Click the intended result. A profile card is displayed.
