Spok Mobile Security Advisory - Enable Attachments

Introduction

The procedures in this topic will re-enable attachments for customers who have completed the steps in the Spok Mobile Security Advisory, and disabled the ability to use attachments on their Spok Mobile devices. This document is intended for Spok Professional Services, or for Spok technical support with the consent of the customer.

Restoring attachments in Spok Mobile version 4.0 and later

Re-establish the association between attachments and the Spok Mobile Server

This procedure restores the original Asset Directory location.

  1. Using a Web browser, navigate to the Spok Mobile Administration interface of your primary Web, DPE, or Platform server. The Administration page can be found at https://my-prod-platform.example.org/Web
    1. If you cannot connect using the above URL, use https://my-prog-platform.example.org/Web/User/Dashboard
  2. Sign in to Spok Enterprise Administration.
    1. If you cannot sign in, contact Spok technical support at +1 (800) 420-9705.
  3. Click Administration to show the System Configuration menu group.
  4. Click Settings in the System Configuration menu group.
  5. In the Assets section, find the Asset Directory Location box near the bottom of the page.
  6. Clear the Asset Directory Location box and type the original Asset Directory location.
  7. Click Save to save your changes.

Enable the ability to upload attachments

This procedure re-enables the ability to upload attachments to the Spok Mobile server.

  1. Using a Web browser, navigate to the Spok Mobile Administration interface of your primary Web, DPE, or Platform server. The Administration page can be found at https://my-prod-platform.example.org/Web
    1. If you cannot connect using the above URL, use https://my-prog-platform.example.org...User/Dashboard
  2. Sign in to Spok Enterprise Administration.
    1. If you cannot sign in, contact Spok technical support at +1 (800) 420-9705.
  3. Click Mange to show the Mobile menu group.
  4. Click Device Groups in the Mobile menu group.
  5. In the Mange Device Groups section, find the Default Group device group and click Edit in the Commands column of the table.
  6. Click Apple to expand its list. The settings displayed in this list affect all iOS devices in the Default device group.
  7. In the Attachments section, set Enable Attachments to Yes.
  8. Click Save to save your changes.
  9. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for Android as well. Click Save to save your changes.
  10. Repeat steps 6 through 9 for each remaining device group.

This change must proliferate to every end-user device. It may take some time for all Spok Mobile devices to regain the ability to upload attachments.

Restoring attachments in Spok Mobile version 3.5.x

Follow the steps below to restore attachment functionality in Spok Mobile version 3.5.x.

  1. Navigate to the Assets directory on the Spok Mobile Server.
  2. Right-click on the Assets folder, then click Properties.
  3. Click the Security tab, then the Advanced button.
  4. Click the Owner tab, then click the Edit button.
  5. Click Other users or groups.
  6. Type the username of the original Care Connect user that was set up as the Spok Mobile administrator during implementation.
  7. Click OK, then click OK a second time to confirm.
  8. Click the Permissions tab, then click Change Permissions.
  9. Select Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent.
  10. Click OK until all windows are closed.
